Exploring Rocks!

We enjoyed being geologists in our two science lessons this week. After going on a rock hunt around school last week, identifying natural and man-made rocks, we had the opportunity to carefully examine different rocks this week. We identified the properties of the different rocks before choosing two and comparing these.

Yesterday, we learnt about the three types rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous.  To help us remember these, we made our own chocolate rocks. The best bit, I’m sure the children would say, was the eating some of the chocolate at the end!

Wally Musicians!

We enjoyed playing with the chime bars in our music lesson. We were playing the E and D notes and used them to create a tune.

It definitely made it more exciting being dressed up as Where’s Wally! The children looked fantastic so thank you for your support with this!

School Closure – Thursday 1st March

Due to worsening conditions, and an unsafe school site, we have made the unprecedented decision to close school today.

We will continue to monitor the forecast for Friday and keep parents updated via text/email.

We will rearrange our own World Book Day next week.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused.

Elvis visits Year 3!

On Tuesday we had a special visitor in Year 3..Elvis the husky came into school to see us. We were amazed by his size and thick coat! Elvis and Mr Moore told us some interesting facts about huskies and how similar they are to wolves.

Meeting Elvis has really helped us imagine how big Starjik’s wolves are.

Maths week – our special visitor!

Year 3 and 4 were very lucky to have a special visitor come into school on Tuesday. Dan, Mrs Potter’s brother, who is a vet came to talk to the children about his job and how he uses maths everyday. The children were fascinated when hearing stories about the treatment of different animals and had the chance to work out some mathematical problems!

Imogen, Mayako and Yunus enjoyed trying out some of his equipment too!

Writing Haikus

We enjoyed writing some haiku poems in our English lesson today…

Our visit to the synagogue!

As part of our RE topic learning about Judaism, Year 3 visited the synagogue on Shadwell Lane this week. The children enjoyed visiting this place of worship and seeing the features we have been learning about. We were all amazed at the size of the Torah scrolls! The children all behaved exceptionally and this was acknowledged by the volunteers who led the workshop. Well done, Year 3!

Working in the art studio

Thank you to those of you who came to our celebration this afternoon. It was lovely to see so many of you. As many of you saw, the children have been working very hard and have thoroughly enjoyed the time they have spent working in the art studio with Mrs Johnston.

Here is a snapshot of some of the things we have been doing this week…
